Understanding No Fault Divorce in New York

As of October 12, 2010, married couples in Long Island may now file for divorce on a no-fault basis, a long overdue change that finally offers spouses a way to end their marriage without resorting to false accusations or long waiting periods under a separation agreement. A spouse may now file for divorce on the grounds that the marriage has been irretrievably broken for at least 6 months. Changes were also made in regard to temporary maintenance, child support modifications and the payment of attorney fees in a divorce. If you would like to learn more about no-fault divorce and how an attorney at our firm can help you, feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience or visit our new no-fault divorce page.
